To clarify, there appear to be 2 problems: 1) The window is sized too small, so the control buttons are getting chopped off. This is minor, and I'm guessing it's just some bad fence points in the referenced code section, though I can't figure out what they should be. 2) Below a certain size (the default size in this case being below that threshold), it just won't (re)draw stuff in the window so you can see what the heck you're doing.
