I was hoping at least a few people using libcurl on windows to test and
comment on this approach, but as that hasn't happened yet I'm determined to
proceed and commit your patch if you think it is in a state at least as good
as the current approach.
Seeing that Joshua Kwan just posted a rather large patch for the same source
file, but for POSIX-like systems perhaps the two of you can have a look at
each others patches to see which one to apply first, or possibly if you could
merge your work into a single patch that I can proceed with?
