We do exactly that in Fedora packages, which need to be multilib-ready:

I'm thinking one way to fix this problem with this particular header file -
and get back to a single unified header for all systems, is to use the
curlbuild.h.dist file and just rename that to curlbuild.h. (and remove
curlbuild.h.in)
What do you think about that?
