I would think it should work, but sadly - it does not seem to.
Here is the "diff -u" that fixes it for me.
Exactly that fix was attempted already as the discussion in
https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/1432 tells (see commit 5b4cbcf11d5), but
it was reverted again in commit 7c145bb2a0a6c176 since it doesn't work for
out-of-tree builds.
