Definitely a change there. I downloaded the 7.60.0 release source, which
works. Running buildconf breaks it. Based on versions in generated files,
autoconf is 2.69 everywhere, automake was 1.15.1 in 7.60.0 and is 1.16.1
now, so I suspect something in automake.
Seems totally reasonable. I also can't recall us doing special between those
two versions that would change how distclean works. =(
Unfortunately, this is not the first time an automake upgrade breaks our
build.
