Hi friends,

I would like the curl project to help fund attendees who decide to take time off from their busy lives and come to curl up 2020. I mentioned this before in a mail on the curl-library list back on November 4, 2019.

This initiative is possible thanks to the many awesome sponsors we have, both companies and individuals!

My idea is to reimburse travel and hotel expenses for attendees to curl up 2020 up to a certain amount of money (for those who apply and are deemed eligible). The amount would vary depending on from where the person travels from: within the curl up country (Germany this time) 250 Euros, within Europe 500 Euros and from outside of Europe 800 Euros.

I would first like to hear your feedback and concerns on the model, setup and monetary limits of this. It is not a done deal, it is still only my proposal.

It exists as a draft in the curl-up wiki:

  https://github.com/curl/curl-up/wiki/Funding-attendance

Since we still don't actually have a "core team", advisory board or something like that for the project (time to bring that discussion back to the table?), the ultimate decision will remain with me personally for now. I will of course continue to listen to the community and the project "elders" for guidance and general advice.

What did I miss? You think it could work? What should be improved before we decide to go ahead?

(This email is cross-posted to both the curl-meet and the curl-library list, but we should probably take follow-ups on the curl-library alone.)
