configuring the network interface (wm0) with dhcpcd no longer panics my custom kernel. My Lemote YeeLoong, booted from NFS, froze while updating the fontconfig cache, but completed startup on a second attempt. Updating the SD-card root somehow managed to succeed on the first attempt and a subsequent boot from local disk successfully configured "rtk0" with dhcpcd. Likewise, updating the installation on an external SATA disk via a USB-SATA adapter succeeded on the first attempt and a subsequent boot from that disk successfully configured "rtk0" with dhcpcd. -- |/"\ John D.
