False alarm. Three-wire serial using 4-wire modular phone cord through a butt-connector. One RJ-11 plug has a weak latch and had come loose, but I didn't notice it until I reattached the cables after booting a GENERIC kernel. Still need to investigate the situation regarding interrupts when using the "com* at acpi?" attachment. -- |/"\ John D.
