hello Patrick. Are you using a custom kernel with the console defined in it? That overrides any settings in the boot.cfg file. Another thing to check. Are you using a machine that has had NetBSD on it for a long time? Is it possible the boot block on the boot disk is old enough that it doesn't actually read the boot.cfg file? I had one installation for many years where I updated the OS, but the boot block never got updated, so boot.cfg was never relevant on that system.
