Colleagues,

The CVE™ Program is pleased to announce the following program updates:

Two CVE Program Policies
Updated<https://www.cve.org/Media/News/item/news/2026/08/18/Two-CVE-Program-Policies-Updated>
Two CVE Program policies have been updated after community input and review:
“CVE Program Reserved but Public (RBP)
Policy<https://www.cve.org/Resources/General/Policies/RBP-CVE-IDs-Policy.pdf>”
and “CVE Program Policy for Inactive
CNAs<https://www.cve.org/Resources/General/Policies/Inactive-CNA-Policy.pdf>.”
Both updated policies were approved by the CVE Board on August 13, 2026, and
are now available on the CVE website on the
Resources<https://www.cve.org/ResourcesSupport/Resources#CVENumberingAuthorities>
page. We thank the community for their contributions.

CVE Program Launches Frontier AI Researcher CNA
Pilot<https://www.cve.org/Media/News/item/blog/2026/07/28/CVE-Launches-Frontier-AI-Researcher-CNA-Pilot>
The CVE Program is currently trialing a researcher CNA scope for two frontier
AI organization CNAs,
Anthropic<https://www.cve.org/PartnerInformation/ListofPartners/partner/Anthropic>
 and OpenAI<https://www.cve.org/PartnerInformation/ListofPartners/partner/OAI>.
This researcher scope is in addition to each organization’s supplier CNA scope.
The six-month evaluation is intentionally bounded and places additional
operating expectations on the participants so the Program can assess value,
coordination burden, record quality, and ecosystem impacts. The pilot
supplements, and does not replace, the CNA Operational
Rules<https://www.cve.org/ResourcesSupport/AllResources/CNARules>, which
continue to apply to both participants. Ongoing community
feedback<https://github.com/CVEProject/frontier-ai-researcher-cnas-pilot/issues>
will help inform whether the participating CNAs should retain this researcher
scope beyond the evaluation period. Please use the Frontier AI Researcher CNAs
Pilot Issue
Tracker<https://github.com/CVEProject/frontier-ai-researcher-cnas-pilot/issues>
on GitHub to provide feedback.

Respectfully,
CVE Program Secretariat
