Approved by whom? If you didn't get any approve, please back it out. Then
show us the error log. It doesn't look like correct to me, because this
port already depend on fontconfig before you add it. A lot of
tinderboxes/pointyhat have success to build libxft w/out failure.

I'm not aware that we are in a ports freeze.  Is that a GNOME think?

No, it's about the MAINTAINER. It's in the porter handbook. I am very surprised about that you don't know anything about it.

The error appeared when starting from empty /usr/local and then
starting `make install` in editors/emacs22.

I just re-ran it with a new empty /usr/local to get the log but it
pulls in too much stuff and I have to leave while it's plugging
through Python.

I'll try later again.
