Erwin Lansing<[email protected]> mentioned:
Deprecate md5 in favour of sha256 checksums. md5 checksums will no longer
be generated or checked, and will be silently ignored for now. Also,
generalize the MD5_FILE macro to DISTINFO_FILO.

Hmm, was it discussed somewhere?
The PR has been there for months, and of course eventually removing the
MD5s was discussed years ago when SHA256 was added. :) But seriously,
you could not have been expected to see either one of those.
This change broke portupgrade badly. :-(
Portmaster too.
I'd prefer at least a heads-up for such a major change next time.
Or did I missed it?
While I am very glad that the portmgr team tested and committed this
update it would have been nice to send a head's up so that tool authors
had the opportunity to get their stuff updated first. I asked
(privately) numerous times for a status update, and never received one.
