In case you'd "hit" the freeze without noticing (although I expect people do read mail and pay attention on announcements of such importancy), pre-commit check would have caught it for you. No need to make wild guesses. As for rationale against abusing it outside a slush, please see my email on port-committers@ from 27 Feb, msgid <[email protected]>. Just couple of weeks ago, not sure why you didn't see it.
