I'm sort of surprised that more people have not spoken up about this.
With all due respect to the perl@ team, I have to say that I agree this
seems premature. I've already had one portmaster user write me about a
failure due to the lack of the old perl version they had installed.
Given how long we've already had these around past EOL, it seems to me
that reasonable deprecation period (3 months after 8.3-RELEASE?)
wouldn't hurt anything, and would provide a lot smoother experience for
our users.
