1) Make it possible to configure interfaces with certain characters in
their names that aren't valid in shell variables. Currently supported
characters are ".-/+". They are converted into '_' characters.
I wonder whether this part correct:
_punct=". - / +"
for _punct_c in $punct; do
Shouldn't it be
for _punct_c in $_punct; do
-------------------------^
instead?
