This looks like a good solution. I don't think it is unreasonable for a user to expect to upgrade a pre-xorg7.2 6-STABLE system to 7-STABLE and have everythinkg work as before (i.e- /usr/X11R6/etc/rc.d scripts get executed at startup)..
