I would vote against this: It would make the very common use case (nothing has changed) worse, and I guess that for the majority of users the GCC version will *never* change incompatibly during the lifetime of the GHC installation. Therefore, checking at GHC startup is the wrong place. A script which is called at boot time or even better at GCC post-installation time is a better place. Cheers, S.
