applet/pilot.c: fix transparency: add callback for the
'change_background' event, and avoid unnecessary GtkEventBox
that was blocking the background changes (GtkEventBox wasn't
invisible). Also, avoid some deprecated API: GnomePixmap -->
GtkImage.
There appear to be some bugs in some themes (i.e. pilot applet
is affected in the same way as other applets) but on the whole
it now appears to work for me, for default, solid/translucent
and pixmap panel backgrounds.
