To be honest, I don't think you should hold your breath on the codegen front.  
John Dias isn't starting until April, and it'll be a few months after that 
before we commit to the HEAD.

The thing is that I have an active branch with lots of changes, and I don't 
want to have a zillion conflicts.

I don't think it's urgent to refactor the code generator.  Desirable, yes, 
urgent, no.
