Probably because -par-*.so is linked against -seq-*.so; the error
message is from dlopen(), which is presumably complaining about an
inability to find the -seq-*.so when trying to satisfy the NEEDED
entry.

GHCi was falling back to looking for .so files when it couldn't find the appropriate .o file, also the build log was confusing due to make -j. Anyway, I fixed it now (at least, this particular problem).

I've also seen failures that look suspiciously like attempts to run more than one ghc-pkg at the same time, which as far as I know the build system is not supposed to do.
