It's not an easy job and I'm not sure how well it will work out. The main problem is that Alex doesn't currently have built-in macros for "upper case character", "lower case character" etc., and these would likely expand into large state machines if we were to use Alex to recognise them. So the result might be gigantic lexer tables, even with the new DFA minimisation. But it might be faster.
