 <h3>How can I contribute to the FAQs?</h3>

-Create a login first by clicking on the <b>Join</b> button in the upper right
corner on any of the <a href="http://oooauthors.org";>OOoAuthors.org</a> pages.
Note that you will need to accept the PDL License on this join_form page, which
basically means that you agree that your contributions can be published and
modified if necessary, and can be used to help users on the various mailing
lists.

-</li>

-<li>

-Now you are able to add comments to each of the existing FAQ items. This
allows you to tell us and everyone who visits the page about other solutions to
the problem or about other additional information which you find useful.

-</li>

-<li>You can also edit the FAQs. If you want guidance, assistance, or a little
bit of human interaction, you can drop us a line at <a
href="mailto:[email protected]";>[email protected]</a>.
Make sure that you have subscribed to the list first.

-<ol type="a">

-<li>

-You can start working through FAQ entries in the <a
href="http://oooauthors.org/en/FAQs/newfaq";>New FAQ Items</a> folder. You will
find them on the <a href="http://oooauthors.org/en/";>OOoAuthors.org</a> web
site at <b>FAQ > New Faq Items > Contents</a></b>. Most of the entries in this
location have been copied from messages posted on the users mailing list. They
need to be rewritten, then moved to the FAQ folder that seems most appropriate.
You may also gather new FAQ items from the <a
href="http://www.openoffice.org/mail_list.html";>OpenOffice.org mail lists</a>
and copy rough drafts of new FAQ entries into this folder.

-</li>

-<li>

-You might consider translating the FAQs into your native language. Plone
includes l18N support. Jeongkyu Kim pioneered this idea by providing a Korean
version of the FAQs: <a
href="http://oooauthors.org/Members/jeongkyu/faq_ko/faqfolder_view";>자주
 묻는 질문 (FAQ)</a>.

-<li>

-If you find it necessary to create a new FAQ item from scratch, go to the
appropriate folder, click on the <b>Contents</b> tab, select <b>Faq Entry</b>
from the drop-down list, then click on <b>Add New Item</b>. A new window opens,
in which for <b>ID</b> field, use the present date followed with a letter (like
"20040314a" for the first item on the 14th of March 2004). In the <b>Title</b>
field, type the question you want to answer; for <b>Question</b> type in the
same. Your answer to the question goes into the <b>Answer</b> field. Click
<b>save</b>. That's it!

-</li>

-<li>

-As to formatting a FAQ entry: Since the present FAQ items here have been
merged from three different sources, you won't find consistent formatting here.
However, for the future FAQ entries please try to follow along these lines:

-<ol type="i">

-<li>

-Keep it simple. Very simple.

-</li>

-<li>

-Use only very basic html code like italics, boldface, numbered or unnumbered
lists.

-</li>

-<li>

-A sequence of mouse clicks should be separated by ">". Also place the name of
any list, field, checkbox, or other object of the GUI which the user will need
to access between <b>bold</b> tags to help the steps stand out nicely.

-</li>

 2. Check out the new-faq directory from the user-faq project at OOo, while in
your home directory, using an SSH tunnel. When the checkout is complete, close
the tunnel to OOo, but maintain the internet connection. (Reference
http://documentation.openoffice.org/faqs/site_maintainers/index.html for
answers to questions about working with the CVS and the SSH tunnel.)

+An after thought for step 2: Maybe it is better check out only the
faq_spider.pl, then run it, and allow its output to compare to the new-faq set
at the user-faq project, when committing the output through OOo's CVS system.
This may be a necessary path to ensure that changes made directly to the
new-faq set at the openoffice.org user-faq project are not overwritten, but
instead merged with the output of the faq_spider.pl. Of course, those merges
must be passed back to the faq set at oooauthors.org for this to be a seemless
approach that honors contributions from all directions. Perhaps further play in
this area could enhance these process instructions, and help make these FAQ
files open from all approaches, if even possible.

 3. Open a terminal window and cd to user-faq/www/new-faq, which should be
located in your home directory.

 4. Run the Perl script:
