Below is a reply I got from Stan about the DBUG Hands-On meeting. DBUG is a computer group that meets in West County:

Anybody going to the DBUG meeting tonight?
I would like to go but can't. Will you?

I did go. Really wish you could have made it too. Your greater experience with Knoppix would have saved my embarrassment.

"DBUG was established in the early 80s to provide a forum for early computer users to educate one another. As computers evolved so has DBUG, progressing from operating systems such as CPM, DOS and Windows 3.1, to the present Windows 95/98/ME/XP."

It was a small group of five (if you include Anna).

If you do go, can you take some OpenCDs and Knoppix CDs with you?

I took some OpenCD 1.4.1, Knoppix 3.6, and Xandros OCE. Had just enough for those that were there. Then they invited me to demo the Knoppix once it got booted up. I wasted too much time with incorrect IPs number trying to get onto the Internet, never did succeed even after someone found correct IP numbers.

Could get everything right in ifconfig, but didn't know how to
restart networking. Still don't know what I was doing wrong.
At least I have the correct IP numbers now.

So, went on to just some general questions and so on about
Debian vs. RedHat distros, Xandros OCE vs. Standard vs.
Professional, stuff on the OpenCD, etc. Jumped around a lot
and didn't have enough time to do justice to all topics.

They were happy, even though I felt a failure because I could
not get onto Internet with Knoppix. Of course one member of
the audience was therefore convinced that Linux was too hard.

Gave out my card and mentioned SLUUG web site with links to
other LUGs. Rattled off a number of LUG meeting dates and
times. Invited all to tomorrow's STL LUG meeting.
