Yes, one of the articles mentions that MS has hired Ward Cunningham, the originator of wikis.

This may be their plan. Remember when the Internet was not on the MS radar. Bill G. woke up to the power and importance of the Internet and MS turned on a dime. As we all know, it was the end of Netscape. This small move also positions MS to be able change direction to true open source if the money moves off the desktop and OS market to a new business model.

It may be time for a market change, and who is in a better position than Microsoft with tons of money to weather the change. IBM and Open Source may be. Only time will tell if this is true.
