Howdy folks,

I'm very new to Linux and I have recently installed Libranet several times.
This time I was trying to upgrade the whole shamoo to sarge and now at the
log on screen it says that KDE is not installed however, if I say apt-get
install kde it tells me that kde is already the newest version.

The synaptic package manager also says that the kdecore, kdebase and
everything else is 3.3.1-x.

I think it's on here somewhere but I dont know how to get to it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

ah yes - that wonderful &^%$#@ bug!

as root, do this:

cd /etc/gdm/Sessions/

ln -s /usr/bin/startkde KDE

now, log out. for Sessions, KDE should now show up. choose it, and you're back in KDE!

btw - Libranet already IS Sarge, plus some Sid & even a little Woody!

one more thing - every single person on this list will tell you: installing & reinstalling, over and over, is the best way to learn. there's nothing wrong with that at all. in fact, i think you ought to let me mess up your box for you so have to reinstall! it'd be a learning experience. :)

If you do not have any Linux training there is a great class at Flo Valley this spring.

Transitioning From Windows to Linux
COMP:782
Saturdays from 9AM - 1 PM 4/2- 5/7
$96.00 +book (I think)

Scott was the instructor when I took it.
If you have the time and money it is fun.

Thanks everyone. Scott's directions worked like a charm.

btw, thanks for the offer to mess up my box but I've been doing pretty well with that on my own. HAHAHAA. Actually, having downloaded a couple gig worth of upgrades, I'm trying to learn how to fix stuff too.

I'd like to take the linux class however, I don't have the time for Sat mornings this spring. I did take one of his other classes and came across his linux presentations and links on it through his website.

Thanks for all the help. This is great.

Bob
