Would anyone happen to know how I can get bittorrent to work?
I did an apt-get install bittorrent and if I do a whereis bittorrent it tells me that it's in /usr/share/bittorrent however when click on a torrent file I get the list of applications but, bittorrent isn't one of those available. If I go to the location given by whereis, all that is there is a folder named bittorrent.
Which distro? I ask because under FC2 there is no executable called bittorrent:
$ whereis bittorrent bittorrent:
However, there is a package called bittorrent:
$ rpm -q bittorrent bittorrent-3.4.1-0.fdr.2.a.1.91
which in turn provides a bunch of executables that start with bt*, e.g. btdownloadcurses.py. One could use btdownloadcurses.py like so to download the latest Knoppix:
$ btdownloadcurses.py --url \
http://www.cwelug.org/~rwcitek/knoppix/3.7/KNOPPIX_V3.7-2004-12-08- EN.torrent
Unfortunately, I don't use a Linux desktop (only server), and use OS X for my desktop. I'm still working on getting a remote Linux desktop (VNC seems to be a better option than XDMCP.)
Since you bring this up, Bob, I'm thinking that we should have a tutorial on BitTorrent and FireFox at every CWELUG meeting which covers acquiring, installing, and using both. Thoughts?
