This site seems to have some really nice tutorials on developing web applications:

Covers HTML, XML, CSS, TCP/IP basics, PHP, SQL, in addition to .NET stuff. Seems to be a pretty darn nice site for covering the basics pretty quickly. One thing that seems to be missing is XUL. Or would folks consider XUL a variation of XML?
