Ubuntu 5.04 and Kubuntu 5.04 also came out last week. It's a stable Debian--as in they snapshot debian unstable and then stable-ize it.
Ubuntu only ships with gnome and Kubuntu only ships with kde. There are liveCD versions as well as install CDs.
Since it's debian based all the great things about debian are available (with the exception of every package known to man--but I was able to get a few needed packages I needed from the 'universe' repositories.
BUT unlike Debian, K/Ubuntu has a predictable release cylce of 6 months and will be supported for 18 months.
