This is the same problem that java has. Write Once, Run Anywhere only works when all platforms share the same capabilities and the language abstracts all of those capabilities. When a filesystem uses \ instead of / for paths the language takes care of it for you. But when one platform has the ability to run applications remotely across a network but others don't you run into issues with the WORA philosophy. Or in this case the filesystem used is NOT exactly portable and uses constructs that other platforms don't have. So again WORA is a lofty goal to shoot for but not always achievable easily.
Of course someone can port the functionality by writing another abstraction and implement the things that not all platforms have but these things take time and effort.
