IIRC, in OpenOffice.org you can open your PowerPoint presentation and then Save As a .swf (Flash) program. The next question is, how does one convert from Flash to a video format for DVD?
Another thought may be to convert PowerPoint to a PDF. On Windows, you can use PDFCreator:

Then the next question becomes, is there a program that can convert PDFs to some video format, somehow handling page transitions?
Another way would be to save each individual PPT slide as a jpeg. Then convert the series of jpegs to a video format, again, somehow handling page transitions. There was a thread about stringing together jpegs into an mpeg on this list not too long ago, but I can't seem to find it in the archives:
