Apparently my past post was too disturbing.
My question is: what need I to do for the laptop don't forget the
gateway address.
Now I have to write
route ass default gw 128.xxx.xxx.xxx
every time I strart the machine.
Do you know a safety way to "store" the network configuration, I mean
the static IP at work and the DNS server in another please.
1) are you saying that you have two locations where you use the laptop
and each location NEEDS different settings?
2) What distro are you running?
Using a network profile would be the best way to store gateway and
similar settings. Does Mandrake or Mandriva use network profiles?
That is, can you have one set of settings for work and another for
home and yet another for elsewhere? Some distros have this feature.
The hack way is to grep for gateway throughout /etc:
grep -R -i gateway /etc/
then edit the files that look appropriate by hand.
