http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Console_screen_saver

To stop your screen from going black after a few min, run this command to
turn it off:

setterm -blank 0

Addition: You can set the monitor to go to "VESA powerdown Mode" after a
specified time, especially useful if your box reboots on powerloss:

setterm -powerdown [0-60]

To disable powersaving:

setterm -powersave off

If you want to enable this settings by default on startup, edit
/etc/conf.d/local.start

for x in $(seq 1 "${RC_TTY_NUMBER}") ; do
       setterm -blank 0 -powersave off > /dev/vc/${x}
done

Cheers;

E!
