IANAL either but yes each person owns his or her own code.  I believe
this is the reason Linus has changed the way code is submitted into the
Linux kernel.  So that everyone knows exactly whose code is owned by
whom there are now mechanisms in place to make sure the author is noted
and someone else signs off on it.
