Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that OpenOffice.org can edit a PDF  
directly (is there such a tool?) only that it can create PDF.  Here's  
my revised version:

There are a number of FLOSS tools that can read PDFs, e.g. xpdf.   
There are also a number of FLOSS tools that can write PDF, e.g.  
OpenOffice.org.  See 'man -k pdf' or google for more examples.

Regardless, if MS pushes forth OpenXML, wouldn't that be a Good Thing 
(TM)?
