Robert. Tried Knoppix 4 on the P1233MMX, 142MB, 4GB, Digital Laptop with the below options, and got the Knoppix road picture, but neither icons nor task bar. Tried just fb800x600, and it wouldn't go beyond the autoconfiguring spinner. Tried several other options, and ended up with "check the CD" and got message " Ok and 1 file is missing. Hanging up on autoconfiguring and to check bios". You may not believe this, but as I was typing this, the laptop had gone beyond the test CD stage above and loaded the KDE desktop. I'll play with it while it's there. I guess I'll have to type in the test CD option to use it. I'll try the Knoppix 4 CD in another computer.
Re CentOS. On installation on the above computer, it aborted saying it was a 586 and needed a 686. I tried a P2 233 with 194MB and it installed. However, it has no Open Office nor flash drive. fstab has no entry. However the control panel shows a Lexar usb drive. I'm going to work on it. Thanks again.
