Can't say I have. And I've used USB and FW with Knoppix quite frequently. Is the connection USB1.1 or USB2.0? If it's 1.1, it'll take a while to transfer 7 GB, although not 20 hours. Something is clearly amiss. > Recommendations for a solution? For now you have two choices: figure out and fix any problems with the USB solution or use something else, e.g. ethernet. For troubleshooting the USB solution, what version of Knoppix are you using? What does dmesg say? Why were you not able to format the drive under Knoppix? After inserting the drive, either dmesg or 'cat /proc/partitions' should have told you which device is the USB drive. Once you know that, you could use fdisk and mkfs. An alternative to using the USB drive is to copy the files over ethernet. Even at 10 MB/s, 7 GB should take less than an hour to copy over. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
