The short answer: you don't. At least not with the Rectangular Marquee tool. Instead one uses the Crop tool: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Lite_Quickies/#crop In Gimpshop: - mouse over the image - press C to bring up the Crop tool - select the upper left corner by clicking and holding - drag until you get to the lower right corner - adjust the selection by clicking and dragging on the upper left or lower right corners - make finer adjustments in the Crop & Resize Window - click "Crop" So, figured that one out.
