What language would folks here recommend for introducing 4th-8th graders to elementary concepts of programming?
At ByteWorks we've been introducing them to programming using MSWLogo, a version of the LOGO programming language using turtle graphics[1]. The programming interface is simple and very interactive. Unfortunately, it only runs under Windows and we'd like something that runs under Linux. We've experimented with KTurle[2] but it has some bugs which make it unsuitable for our needs (also, seems to be stale.) While we'd like to stick with some kind of LOGO with turtle graphics, we are open to other languages. The requirement is that it would have to be engaging for students in the 4th-8th grade age range. Thanks in advance. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_graphics [2] http://kturtle.sourceforge.net/ Regards, - Robert http://www.cwelug.org/downloads Help others get OpenSource software.
