Robert: I'm not surprised by such a vague and wide ranging statement.
Granted I know nothing of freecycle and it's members or admins, but it sounds like the admins or list owners are trying to cover themselves it terms of legal liability. It also sounds like they don't really understand what they are trying to protect themselves from. Software piracy, OK, I understand. With regard to legitimate FOSS distribution, it doesn't make sense, of course. It sounds like a knee jerk reaction to something they aren't fully educated about. That's a quick and fairly narrow assessment and only in terms of FOSS. Other proprietary software and pirated music... all bets are off. Cheers E! > > This is a message that was recently posted to Freecycle Saint Louis, an on-line exchange for reusing unwanted goods. Is it worthwhile to respond to the blanket statement from the admins that software cannot be copied and redistributed? If so, what do folks think is an appropriate way to respond? > > Regards, > - Robert > > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: [freecycle-stl] File - ADMIN - Distribution of Software, CDs, DVDs, et al > Date: 14 Jan 2007 16:26:19 -0000 > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > ADMIN Notices - Distribution of Software, CDs, DVDs, et al > > Software and other forms of media fall under Copyright agreements.
