I know a few folks here like to try Ubuntu and other alpha releases.
Beware that there's a kernel bug which may "permanently" break your
wired network card:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/263555

Although the bug is listed on Ubuntu's launchpad, it affects other distros, too.

If I read it correctly, this bug would affect my laptop:

$ lspci  | grep 8256[67]
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566MM Gigabit Network
Connection (rev 03)

$ lsmod | grep e1000
e1000                 126016  0

The preemptive solution is to blacklist the e1000 driver. If the
kernel already broke your NIC, then the solution seems to be flash the
hardware on the NIC -- don't have any idea how easy or hard that is to
do.

Regards,
- Robert
