An interesting article on collective intelligence that relates to the 
debate about google on this list a two weeks ago.

Some of the questions raised include:
how do you protect privacy while taking advantage of new technologies?
a set of principles based on common law to insure an individual's 
control over his/her data.
is privacy a historical anomaly?

imho, this is a classic case where govt regulation is necessary to 
preserve a balance between the utility of the technology and privacy 
concerns.
