Ctrl-t is a Firefox-specific (or other application-specific) command.
There is a list of common commands that should be universal (beginning
around 1982 or so):

Ctrl-o = open
Ctrl-w = close
Ctrl-q = quit
Ctrl-c = copy
Ctrl-v = paste
Ctrl-x = cut
...

and so on, for a definite set of commands that should be universal to all
apps (but may not be).

If a command is not on that list (tabs were not invented when the list was
created), then there are no guarantees, even on a Mac (where standards used
to be much more rigorously enforced). In an app without tabs,  such as
Nautilus, Ctrl-t is available for whatever you want it to be.

I'm accustomed to cmd-delete to move something to the trash, so I'm not
comfortable with Ctrl-t for trash. That was a Nautilus decision.
