I'm used to Photoshop and finding out procedures in Gimp isn't intuitive if you have been trained on other software.
It' took me a long, long time (hours) trying to insert my pets into a picture and add shadowing, etc. in Gimp... I finally just booted to Vista and used Photoshop and was finished in minutes.
