How does one open an HTML table in OOo Calc?

Windows has this cool trick that if you save a table from a web page
as an HTML file and name it with .xls, you can open it with Excel.
That doesn't work in Ubuntu. The same file when opened in Ubuntu,
first opens Firefox, which asks what I want to do with the file. If I
specify open with OOo Calc, it actually opens in OOo Writer as a
table. I then have to Select>All, Copy, and Paste into a new OOo Calc
sheet. And the paste part takes on the order of several minutes to
complete, whereas opening the file happens almost instantly with
Excel.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

- Robert
