Well, I managed to break a lot of things in 8.04, so I backed up my data and installed 9.04. The Atheros wireless drivers worked like a charm, a couple of the new themes are really nice, and after installing the compiz-fusion manager and the simple manager I tried enabling the cube. No luck. I messed with the appearance settings, and it wouldn't let me select anything but the none option on visual effects. The I downloaded the compiz-fusion icon and switched to compiz as my windows manager and set my Compiz options to loose bindings, and window decorator to GTK and everything works.
