> For everyone: has anyone tried another VoIP service, e.g. Ekiga or Gizmo5?

I installed and used Ekiga to make a SIP video call to a couple of our
internal Tandberg Video Conference Systems at work. My impression was not
good. On our internal network, there was a noticable delay between the video
and audio (audio was way out of sync with the lips moving). There was also a
considerable amount of pixelating that occurred. I can't recall if this only
happened with large movements or if also was happening on background objects
although I want to say the latter. This may be better using their service,
although I don't see how it can be much better than everything being on a
local LAN.
