Y'know, if patents on software are bad - and they are - then we should try to kill software patents. If a company wants to exercise their patents against a competitor, unfortunately, that's legal in our country. And btw - remember: Red Hat has patents on stuff. Are they evil?
But I find really funny that people have been pointing out for YEARS that Ogg just might not be as patent-free as everyone said, and people on this list & elsewhere just stuck their heads in the sand & assumed that what the Ogg guys said was proof & that everything was going to be hunky dory. The problem is, in a society where patents are used as warfare, not having patents is like showing up to a gun fight with nothing but good will in your hands. The Ogg guys are - very unfortunately - about to find that out. I'm not saying it's good, I'm just saying that's the way it is, unless we can ever disarm everyone all at once by getting the SCOTUS to declare software patents unconstitutional. Scott -- R.
