Since you have the ram why not try to install a vm within a vm and see how it goes?
Actually, I was going to try it with 11.04Beta in VB, but the daily update hosed the VM yesterday and I still haven't managed to get the mouse working again. So I couldn't try it. I have to see if I can't get the mouse working in the VM again.
