Richard, Honestly, I have no idea. CXF doesn't use log4j for anything and we pretty much go out of our way in our dependencies and such to make sure we don't accidentally grab log4j. I guess all I can suggest is to make sure the log4j jar is available. Maybe check the system properties or something to make sure nothing is grabbing a different log4j.properties file.
