So, I coded up a server that expects MtoM. It declares a property to be a DataHandler. It all works fine if the client, indeed, sends along MtoM content.
If the client doesn't bother to optimize, and just puts the data inline, the data handler comes up null. Is this just another disagreement with the JAXB RI?
